Bethany Gizzi honored as Woman of Distinction

Bethany Gizzi was a receipient of Assemblymember Harry Bronson's 2026 Women of Distinction award on May 16th. The following was shared as Bethany was honored:

Bethany is a legend at MCC where she has been teaching since 1997 and is the President of the Faculty Association and a Professor of Sociology. She serves in several union leadership roles, including AFT Higher Education Program and Policy Council, the NYSUT Higher Education Policy Council, and is a graduate of the NYSUT Leadership Academy and the AFL-CIO/Cornell Union Leadership Institute. Bethenny has also been recognized as the NYSUT Higher Education Member of the Year in 2018, awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 2024, and in, 2016, participated in President Obama’s Free College Initiative discussion at the White House. Her work includes amplifying LGBTQ+ experiences, serving as a SafeZone trainer, and developing a two-year Gender and Sexuality degree. She has devoted her career to advocating for fairness and opportunity, and was nominated by two of her colleagues, Amanda Colosimo and Jennifer Hill.
