TCC: Save the Date for Tell My STARR Story Workshop (RSVP by June 2, 2026)
I hope the end of the semester is going well for you. As we prepare for wrapping up the semester, I’d like to invite you to a professional development workshop designed to support a challenge many of us see across disciplines: helping students clearly articulate what they are learning and how it connects to their academic, transfer, and career goals.
This interactive workshop will take place on June 9, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will offer practical, classroom‑ready strategies you can immediately integrate into your courses.
If this sounds helpful, please review the details below and RSVP by June 2, 2026. For questions or additional information, feel free to reach out to Melis Kural (mkural@monroecc.edu).
Tell My Story with STARR (Situation, Task, Action, Result, Reflection)
Facilitated by Dr. Janine Bower
How can we help students move beyond “I took this class” to clearly explaining what they know, can do, and have learned?
This workshop introduces STARR, a structured reflection framework that supports students in making meaning of their coursework, labs, projects, internships, and research experiences—and in communicating that learning with confidence in academic, transfer, and career conversations.
In this session, faculty will explore strategies to help students:
- Identify skills and learning outcomes embedded in everyday course activities
- Make meaningful connections between class experiences and future goals
- Articulate their learning with clarity and confidence, both in writing and conversation
The workshop is applicable across disciplines and especially useful for faculty interested in metacognition, reflective learning, high-impact practices, career readiness, and student engagement.
