MCC's Statement on the Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning

I am pleased to announce the Publication of Monroe Community College’s Statement on the Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning.

Developed by the ad hoc AI Workgroup—which comprised leadership and representation from faculty and staff—the statement provides guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in alignment with “principles that reflect the College’s commitment to academic integrity and its responsibility to support students in their pursuit of knowledge, competencies, and skills that will serve them here and beyond.”

Key themes of the statement include:

  • AI’s implementation as a tool to enhance—not replace—learning
  • Centering the human voice to ensure creativity, critical thinking, and individual contribution remain at the core of the educational experience
  • Establishing clear expectations for student use of AI as part of their educational experience—and in concert with College policies and course requirements

The Statement on the Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (PDF) is now available to the campus community. It has been posted on the Library’s Artificial Intelligence: Tools for Faculty page and in the MCC VC Faculty Center in Brightspace.
