Updates to Transfer Credit Display and SUNY General Education Credit
As part of a SUNY-wide effort and the SUNY Transfer Initiative, the following updates regarding transfer credit processing and display will be implemented in Degree Works:
- Transfer Credit Grade Display
Incoming transfer credit will now display with the corresponding transfer grade designation (e.g., TA, TB-, TC, TD+) rather than the standalone “T.” - SUNY General Education Credit Transfer
Students transferring from another SUNY institution will receive transfer credit for SUNY General Education (GE) areas or competencies earned with a grade of D- or higher. While these credits will transfer to MCC, they may only satisfy program-specific requirements or prerequisites if they meet the minimum grade standard required by the academic program.- If a transferred course fulfills a SUNY GE requirement but does not apply toward a requirement in the student’s degree audit, it will appear within the SUNY GE block in Degree Works.
- Example:
ECO 111 completed at another SUNY institution with a grade of “D” will transfer to MCC because it satisfies the SUNY Social Sciences (SOCS) requirement. However, it will not apply toward degree requirements in the Business Administration (BU01) program because a minimum grade of “C” is required as a prerequisite for ECO 112. Students in BU01 would therefore need to repeat the course.
- Transfer Credit from Private Institutions
Transfer credit from private institutions will continue to be accepted only for coursework completed with a grade of “C” or higher. - Other Types of Credit
Coursework earned through standardized exams, departmental challenge exams, military credit, and similar sources will continue to display with a “T” designation. - Additional Information
More information regarding MCC’s transfer credit policy can be found at: Transferring Credits to MCC. - Benefits of the New Display
The updated transfer credit display will provide greater clarity for students and advisors, particularly for students seeking admission into competitive health-related programs where quality points and grades are important considerations.
