Earn one of two credentials in this high demand field!

Interested in working in a health care lab setting? MCC has partnered with SUNY Broome Community College to let you earn a Histological Technician A.A.S. degree or Histological Technician certificate. Employment opportunities can be found in hospitals, private labs, pharmaceutical companies, research facilities, and veterinary clinics.

If you’re fascinated by the complex way the body works, like to work with your hands, have strong fine motor skills, are extremely detail-oriented, or fascinated by medical research and the solutions it can create, this could be a very satisfying career choice for you.

WHAT’S A HISTOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN?

Histological Technicians are a critical part of patient care.  As a histological technician you will:

  • Perform and assure the accuracy of laboratory testing and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in the processing or staining of tissue samples, such as H&E stainers, microtome/ cryostat, tissue processors, or cover slippers.
  • Direct and supervise lab resources and operations.
  • Perform special staining techniques for further diagnostic testing.
  • Collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Through this partnership between MCC and Broome Community College, you will enroll as a student at Broome Community College. You will take courses at MCC and Broome. Courses are offered online or in person. The only exception is onsite clinical work which will be at the University of Rochester.

HOW TO APPLY

Students apply to and enroll in Broome Community College. Broome and MCC can both help you with financial aid, advisement and other services.
