TCC Brown Bag: The Museum as a Metaphor: Supporting Learners of All Ages

Please join the Teaching and Creativity Center (TCC) Brown Bag on October 15 for a presentation by Dimitra Ramos, "Museum as a Metaphor: Supporting Learners of All Ages.

Museums were originally founded as “Cabinets of Curiosities” by and for the European elite in the sixteenth century, showcasing preserved animals, dried plants, fine art, among other items of cultural value at the time. Today, museums have opened their doors to the public, curated their galleries with items highlighting a wide range of artistic mediums and perspectives, and hosted affordable and accessible cultural events. However, the museum visit doesn’t begin when entering the exhibits. It begins with the museum’s website, parking lot, access to public transportation, coat check, and signage that help museum visitors feel comfortable and prepared to engage with each display. “The Museum as a Metaphor: Supporting Learners of All Ages” will provide parallels between museum visitor services and college-provided supports to promote holistic practices to foster college students’ sense of belonging in higher education, while affirming their diverse backgrounds.
