03:15 pm - 04:15 pm

All who teach WR courses are invited to a discussion on Wednesday, May 8, from 3:15 to 4:15 PM, co-sponsored by the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee and the Virtual Campus. The topic is Generative AI and Writing Intensive (WR) Courses.

In an era where technology and writing intersect, the significance of writing-intensive courses becomes even more evident. The use of generative AI tools is both a boon and a challenge for instructors, who need to be proactive. Join us to discuss ethical implications, data privacy, attribution, and the need for transparency in expectations and evaluation. This session will explore instructor experiences and the potential to uphold critical thinking and creativity in the writing-intensive classroom. Don’t miss this opportunity to discuss the evolving landscape of writing education in the digital era.

This is a fully remote event, which you can join via Zoom

On your own time prior to attending, we recommend that you watch this 15-minute segment (Video) from a talk from one of the leading experts in the intersections of generative AI and writing pedagogy, Dr. Anna Mills of Cañada College. Dr. Mills' talk is titled Educators, Writing, and AI: Paths Forward, hosted by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Faculty Development at Xavier University of Louisiana on January 24, 2024. The full talk is available on YouTube (Video).
