Hear Holocaust Survivor Werner Schenck's Story at the MCC Human Book Event

Thanks to the assistance of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project and the JCC, the MCC Human Books Event Planning Team is pleased to announce that Werner Schenk, a Holocaust Survivor, will be a "Human Book" at the MCC Human Books Event on Wednesday, May 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LeRoy V. Good Library on the Brighton campus.

In Luebeck, Germany, Werner and his family were arrested by the Gestapo many times but his father, a specialist tool and die maker working on advanced military systems, was needed, so they were released--at first. Though kicked out of school because he was Jewish, Werner attended school with a false identity and was protected by the principal. After being alerted by a friend in the police department, he and his mother went into hiding with the help of nuns in the town's hospital. Though his immediate family survived, over 40 of his relatives were murdered in the camps.

The Human Book Event is a series of conversations, not presentations. Advance registration is recommended. To schedule time to talk with Werner Schenk, visit: https://libguides.monroecc.edu/humanbooks
