A Test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System Will Be Performed Today
With wireless devices playing a significant role in our personal and
professional lives, the ability to receive relevant and timely information
pertaining to emergencies in our community is crucial to our abilities to
protect ourselves and loved ones during an emergency.
Both MCC Alert and the MCC Guardian Mobile Safety App are perfect
examples of emergency communication platforms designed specifically for the
faculty, staff, and students of Monroe Community College, wherein they can
receive emergency messages from MCC via MCC Alert and can communicate directly
with the Department of Public Safety for both emergency and non-emergency
matters via MCC Guardian. For additional information on MCC Alert and MCC
Guardian visit https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/ and click on the links for
MCC Alert and MCC Guardian.
The expansion of emergency communications delivery systems is an ongoing
project at the Federal Government level with the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) working in
conjunction to provide emergency message communication broadcast capabilities
for wireless devices.
Today, Wednesday October 3rd, a test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert
System will be conducted and will include the broadcast of a test emergency
message to your cellular telephone. Your receipt of this message will be
dependent upon your cellular telephone carriers' voluntary participation in the
program. In calendar year 2019, wireless service carrier participation in the
Nationwide Emergency Alert System will be mandatory.
At times we
tend to be overwhelmed with the volume of information that is sent to us via
our mobile devices. With that being said, the receipt of timely, relevant, and
accurate emergency communications on a local, regional, and national level is
an acceptable exception to the data overload experience.

information on Emergency Communications or to receive individual, group, or
Departmental training on the MCC Guardian Mobile Safety App please contact
