Alumni Swim Meet & Coach Dan Dubois Retirement Party Highlight Weekend Events with Facility Updates
This past weekend proved to be a successful and fun one that celebrates the
career of long-time Head Swimming & Diving Coach Dan Dubois. An alumni meet
and the ceremony included over 70 former student-athletes against the current
MCC Swimming & Diving Teams. The retirement celebration came at perfect
timing, with facility updates to showcase to former swimmers and divers. An
updated Pool Record Board, 10 All-American Plaques, A Monroe Tribune Award,
Non-Scholarship Title Winner Plaques, New Timing System, and Pool deck updates
were some of the highlights during the meet. Afterward, a celebration for Coach
Dan was conducted in the gym, where family and friends gathered with alums.
Dubois left a lasting legacy at the helm of the swimming and diving program,
winning a combined 44 NJCAA Region III championships along with a combined 19
non-scholarship division championships. He's coached 62 All-Americans, and 12
individual national champions, and MCC swimmers have held five national records
under Dubois. More impressive, Dubois leaves having never lost a regular-season
head-to-head meet against Region III opponents. His efforts rarely went
unnoticed, collecting numerous regional and national coach of the year awards
over his career. Dan enjoys retirement in his garden and teaching part-time for
the Physical Education and Health Department here at MCC.
The athletics department would like to thank the facilities team of Joe
Angora, Luis Rivera, Joel Kaplan, and Kevin for their tireless efforts to
complete various projects before this past weekend. Those included the record
board, All-American plaques, and tile work. The alums were overwhelmed and
impressed with the facilities updates and looked forward to returning
throughout the season and in future years.
