Our new portal "Did you know" series: Students are at the center of the work with the new portal?
The student perspective was essential as we conducted the needs assessment
to determine the requirements for the new portal. Significant time and
resources supported learning about the needs of our students. MCC APPLIED
reached out to Student Government, we examined the results of current and past
focus groups and surveys of our current, new, and past students, we reviewed
data provided by Institutional Research including the results of the intake
survey and the student satisfaction survey. We also conducted our own
surveys, and asked members of the RFP team to reach out to students in their
departments and divisions for feedback.
Once the need was established from the student perspective, the student
voice continued through the full vetting process for our new portal product.
With a focus on supporting a positive student experience at Monroe, we have
fully engaged students in the implementation.
We especially want to thank the students that worked directly on many tasks
that have come along with developing the new portal. Many thanks go out to the
MCC APPLIED student interns: Zachary Syed (Computer Information Systems),
Rachel Northrup (Office Technology), and Cassandra Roberts (Office Technology).
These students are working directly with our IT Specialist, Colin Canfield, to
create the content page templates, document the campuses GPS locations for the
integrated map feature, input all of the content onto the intranet pages, test
integrations, and create presentations, surveys, and training tools.
Our commitment to student input extends directly into the classroom as well.
MCC APPLIED Coordinator, Michael Rehbaum has been the lead working with Graphic
Design service learning students to create the marketing materials, the
Lean Six Sigma students who are taking a strategic look at the Career Plan to
provide feedback and suggestions.
While most of these students will be graduating this semester (YEAH for
them, Boo for us!!), this means there are opportunities for other students to
get involved. If you teach a co-op, service learning, or other experiential
learning course, please reach out to see if we can partner in the coming
semesters!
Next Monday there will be even more news on our new portal! Be sure to check
the Daily Tribune for some exciting information!
