Learn about the Unique Experiences of MCC's Single Mom Students
More than 18% of MCC students are "Student-Parents," individuals who are
caring for dependent children during their MCC studies. More than half of those
Student-Parents are single moms.
Last spring, MCC was selected as one of four community colleges nationwide
by the Education Design Lab to participate in the Single Moms Success Design
Challenge grant. As part of the grant, MCC will be engaging in a design-driven
innovation initiative to improve the graduation and transfer outcomes of our
single mother learners.
The core team for the grant spent the summer collecting information from MCC
single mom learners, faculty, and staff to help us better understand single
moms' unique academic and personal experiences. On October 10, that information
will be on display at both campuses as "gallery walks." These walks, which are
similar to tours of exhibits in a museum, will take place on October 10 from
12-5 pm at the...
- Downtown campus, in the 2nd floor lounge
- Brighton campus, in Monroe B.
The gallery walks can take as little or as much time as you want. Unlike
museum tours, however, the gallery walks will be interactive. Attendees will be
encouraged to give anonymous feedback on what they see. That feedback will then
become part of the information on display for other attendees to see.
We hope to see you there!
