Save the Date: Continuing the Conversation: Creating an Inclusive Environment

Creating an Inclusive Environment: Facilitated by Professor Bethany Gizzi

When: Monday, October 21, 2019

Where: Room 352 Downtown Campus

Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Faculty, staff, students; let's have a conversation, share information and continue the work after International Pronoun Day.

Schools are places of learning and also miniature societies. The climate of a school has a direct impact on both how well students learn and how well they interact with their peers. Teachers and administrators work hard to make their classrooms welcoming places where each student feels included. But despite these efforts, students who are--or who are perceived to be--lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBTQIA+) continue to face a harsh reality.

According to a recent Human Rights Campaign survey, LGBT students report being harassed at school--both verbally and physically--at twice the rate of non-LGBT youth. With heightened stressors like bullying, harassment and a lack of role models, LGBTQ students are also more likely to experience negative educational outcomes.

Join us in continuing the conversation about creating inclusive environments for our students here at MCC.
