MCC to join national initiative on racial equity in higher ed

WXXI-1370 AM’s Noelle Evans interviewed Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Calvin Gantt (Diversity, Equity and Belonging) regarding MCC’s selection to participate in the American Association of Colleges and Universities’ effort to develop a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation ( TRHT)–Focused Campus Climate Assessment Toolkit. The toolkit will be a national resource aimed at addressing systemic inequities in higher education.

WXXI aired the segment, Monroe Community College to join national initiative on racial equity in higher ed, on Feb. 14.

The anticipated positive impacts of the toolkit will go beyond MCC. During the interview, Dr. Gantt noted how, starting in March, MCC’s core team will begin researching aspects of systemic racism (e.g., housing, poverty, incarceration rates) affecting Rochester residents. “There’s a lot of racial healing that still needs to take place in our community,” he said.

MCC is among 19 U.S. institutions selected by AAC&U to participate in the effort.

We extend our thanks to Dr. Gantt and colleagues for their excellent work during the application and selection process that brought this inspiring opportunity to MCC.
