Having trouble in your math class? Drop in to the RAF Math Learning Center today!

The mission of the Mathematics Department at MCC is to provide our diverse student population a variety of opportunities that optimize success in learning mathematics. Since 1977, the Mathematics Learning Center (MLC) has helped us achieve this goal.

Research has shown that students who use MLC resources have increased retention rates compared to those who do not. In a typical year, the MLC provides a place for student study groups to meet, a resource room with textbooks and instructor materials available for loan, quiet space for make-up testing, computers with required mathematics software, and free drop in one-on-one tutoring (no appointment necessary). When students come to the MLC, they may stay as long as they like. This allows them to work independently or in small groups on homework assignments and still receive tutoring support when they need it.

Mathematics Learning Center tutors have thousands of hours of experience in the classroom, the majority of them as adjunct faculty at MCC, which enables them to teach the how and why of the content in our courses when students need assistance. In order to work in the MLC, our tutors must have an earned Bachelor's degree in Mathematics which ensures a breadth of knowledge that has proven beneficial to students like you. In a recent survey of MCC students,

  • 88.5% were satisfied by the amount of time our tutors spent assisting them.
  • 88.5% responded that they were satisfied with the quality of the tutoring they received in the MLC.
  • 96.5% said that they would return.

Because access to the College campus is curtailed for the Fall semester, our MLC tutors have been using Zoom (https://monroecommunity.zoom.us /j/9719837618 ) to support the Mathematics Department's mission of assisting MCC students. We continue to offer the one-on-one sessions that students like you want and need. Our hours of operation this Fall are:

  • Monday: 10 am - 8 pm
  • Tuesday: 10 am - 8 pm
  • Wednesday: 10 am - 8 pm
  • Thursday: 10 am - 8 pm
  • Friday: 10 am - 3 pm
  • Saturday: 1 pm - 4 pm

The MLC also has dedicated TRS tutors to answer questions on content or the lumen platform during the following times:

  • Tuesday 1pm - 4pm
  • Wednesday 1pm - 4pm
  • Thursday 2pm - 5pm

If you are taking a math course, and find yourself struggling, please take advantage of this valuable resource. We are looking forward to working with you soon.
