Zoom: Automated Live Transcriptions
Zoom has now imbedded an automated live transcription feature that
translates all spoken words into real-time text, without having to assign a
third party.
In order to create a more inclusive learning environment to support our
broadest range of learners, the Counseling & Disability Services department
encourages everyone to begin utilizing the Automated Live Transcription
feature.
Steps to activate Automated Live Transcriptions:
- Go to the Zoom website, and sign in using our SSO Zoom account.
Note: this feature is a part of the MCC Zoom license agreement.
- In the left navigation menu, click Settings.
- Under the Meeting section, choose “In Meeting
(Advanced)” and scroll to Closed Captioning.
- Turn ON (to blue) the button for Closed Captioning.
- Check the box next to “enable live transcription service to
show transcript on side panel in-meeting”.
- Turn on the button (blue) for SAVE Captions.
When in a meeting:
- As the host, you only have to complete these steps once, including
already scheduled meetings.
- In your toolbar at the bottom of your ZOOM meeting, click
“Live Transcription” > “Enable
Auto-Transcription”. If you cannot see the CC icon, click on the
“more” icon.
- Once “Auto-Transcriptions” are enabled, captions may
not automatically appear for participants; however, participants can click the
CC button on their screen to choose to view the captions as needed, or select
the Live Transcript option to view the time-stamped transcript.
- This feature is not available in breakout rooms.
