Build Sustainability into Your Life - Be Water Wise
As of January 24, 2023, 42.99% of the lower 48 states are in drought
according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. According to the EPA, showering
accounts for nearly 17% of residential indoor water use which adds up to nearly
1.2 trillion gallons of water used in the United States just for showering!
- Take a shorter shower - If each person in the United States reduced
their shower by one minute, it is estimated it would save a combined 170
billion gallons each year.
- Wash full loads
- Use a dishwasher (using a dishwasher over handwashing
for 10 minutes saves around 100 gallons of water a week).
- Replace old showerheads with a Watersense (meets EPA criteria)
labelled showerhead and save around 2,700 gallons each year
