Today is International Pronouns Day! Events are taking place throughout the day!

Today is International Pronouns Day. We seek to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace.

Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities.

There are three events today to mark the day.

9am - 10am: "The Gender Identity Training- Respecting Pronouns" with Professor Erin Morris - Empire Room
The Gender Identity Training: Respecting Pronouns will discuss how to be more inclusive through our language, focusing on respectful pronoun use. We will learn basic definitions around gender identity, gender expression, and pronouns and why it is important to respect the identities of those around us. In this training we will also discuss ways in which we can be more inclusive with our language through avoiding gendered language when in diverse and unknown settings and practicing proper pronoun use. There will also be time for any questions you may have.
