Recognition for Dr. Patricia Caballero-Schillaci Mentoring students for SUNY Research Conference in NYC
The Health and Physical Education department would like to recognize Health
Studies adjunct Dr. Patricia Caballero Schillaci, for promoting a course
undergraduate research experience (CURE) in HEG215 Global Health and Culture
and taking it to the next level. This spring, she encouraged over 20 students
to submit abstract proposals on their CURE to the interdisciplinary SUNY
undergraduate research conference (SURC) which took place April 14 at SUNY
Maritime in the Bronx. Liam Sullivan was accepted to present his course
research on Cultural barriers to health and wellness for gang
members and Alexandra Garlock was accepted to present her research
on Cultural Barriers to health and wellness: punk/skinhead runaways in
the U.S. Each semester, students are encouraged to research a
culture of interest that experiences vulnerabilities and a disparate physical
or mental health outcome. Dr. Caballero Schillaci looks forward to promoting
further opportunities for students to present course research in HEG 215.
