Staying Safe from Tax Scams
It is that time of year, file your taxes as soon as you can...before the
scammers do it! Last year someone filed my son's taxes before he did. It took a
lot of his time convincing the IRS of the fraud. Here's how it works. Someone
steals your identity, files a bogus tax return in your name before you do and
collects a refund check from the IRS. The IRS estimates that it sent out nearly
three million fraudulent refunds to con artists last year.
This month's cybersecurity newsletter talks about what you can do to help
minimize the chances of becoming a victim of a tax scam.
