Celebrating and Honoring Our Veterans
On Thursday, November 11. 2021, the College will be closed in observance of
Veterans Day. And, although it is seen by many as a holiday, it is
actually an opportunity to give thanks to the service men and women who have
ensured that we - American citizens, immigrants, migrant workers, refugees,
etc. - have a chance to take part in a lived experience that many around the
world have never known. As such, we want to take time to honor and
celebrate our Veterans who have sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy the
freedoms that are associated with the United States.
One way to show our love and support for our Veterans is by attending MCC's
Veteran Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Noon. The event
will take place at the Veterans Memorial on campus, located in the courtyard
between the library and building 11. The long range forecast is for mid-50s and
partly cloudy so we will keep our fingers crossed for nice November weather. In
the event of inclement weather we will hold the ceremony in the South Atrium of
building 11.
As we prepare to celebrate and honor our Veteran, I am reminded of quote by
Peter Marshall that states, "May we think of freedom, not as the right to
do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right." As
members of the MCC and the greater county of Monroe, if we put those
words into practice on Veterans Day and everyday, we will not only honor
our Veterans but we will create a society where every individual, regardless of
background, matters.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Noon.
