English/Philosophy Department Announces Winners of 50th Annual Writing Contest
The English/Philosophy department is pleased to announce the winners of the
50th Annual Student Writing Contest. Each of the categories is named in honor
of a past department colleague.
In the Callan Research Essay category, first place goes to
Gillian Moore for her piece titled “The Good District: A Case
Study of Segregation in Monroe County Schools”. Second place is awarded
to Emily Newsome for her piece titled “In-Depth Interview Project: The
Subculture of Veganism in Today’s Society”.
In the Rice Creative Nonfiction category, first place is awarded to
Amelia Alexander for her piece titled “Floorboards”.
Second place is awarded to Vanessa Renee Morabito for her piece titled
“Splintered”.
In the Cooney Literary Essay category, first place is awarded to Gillian
Moore for her piece titled “Hamlet’s Mona Lisa Smile”. Second
place is awarded to Reatha-Mae Newman for her piece titled “The Curse of
the Beast”.
In the Cloos-Susskind Poetry category, first place is awarded to
Isabella Miller for her poem titled “Latter-day”. Second
place is awarded to Gillian Moore for her poem, “Sunday the
Eleventh”.
Finally, in the Langlois Fiction category, first place is awarded to
Kathryn Hobbs for her story titled “Bernadette”. Second
place is awarded to Emily Newsome for her story titled “He Left
Early”.
The English/Philosophy department congratulates all of the winners and
salutes them for their outstanding work. They will be honored at a department
Zoom ceremony on April 29th.
