Students from Cartagena Colombia Visit to MCC!
Last week MCC welcomed students from Colombia as part of the grant from 100K
Strong in the Americas which was jointly submitted between Jorge Alas (World
Languages and Cultures) and Jonathan Little (Chemistry and Geosciences
Department). The project was titled, Monitoring Coastline Water Quality in
Cartagena, Colombia using GIS Technology and Spanish Language students
(Consultants): A Hybrid Study Abroad Program between Monroe Community College
and FundaciĆ³n Universitaria Tecnologico Comfenalco Cartagena, Colombia. The
grant provided mobility between students and faculty from Colombia and the
United States, and brought awareness of the geospatial technology opportunities
in Latin America, as well as explore potential careers in the field of language
translation.
The students, their faculty member and director had an opportunity to tour
the Brighton Campus, Downtown Campus, and Applied Tech Building. During their
stay they had an opportunity to tour the Rochester area and spend time with MCC
faculty, students, and Administrators.
On Thursday, May 2 LEN, PRISM and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Council hosted a dinner to learn more about the project and hear from the
students. The PRISM Center was filled with MCC students, faculty, staff and
Administrators. There was great conversation about the students experience in
Rochester, future endeavors as they explore the possibilities of studying at
MCC and other institutions and what they hope to take back to their institution
for future growth.
Pictured are the students, their faculty member, director of the program and
MCC faculty and Administrators.
