Autism Awareness Month and Event

Please join the Counseling Center, Disability Services and Health Services office as we celebrate Autism Awareness month for the month of April.

Facts:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex bio-neurological developmental disability that generally appears before the age of three. ASD may affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with others. ASD is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum condition” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees.
  • In 2023, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2020 data.
  • Autism is diagnosed four times more often in boys than girls. 
  • Autism affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
  • Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan.

  • Autism Up Speaker 
    • A representative from Autism Up will be talking with students about autism awarenss, resources for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and how to best support your peers with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
