Surgical Tech students attend NYAST Conference and Scrub Bowl
The MCC Surgical Technology Program, with the help of the Club for Surgical
Technologists and the MCC Student Government, sent three (3) second-year
students and seven (7) first-year students to the 2019 New York Association of
Surgical Technologists Spring Conference in Buffalo. This is a semi-annual
event that brings together Surgical Tech students, Certified Surgical
Technologists, and program instructors for educational presentations, a student
scrub bowl and round table discussions. Topics included New Cataract Surgery
Innovations, Total Hip Arthroplasty, OB/GYN Advanced Instrumentation and
Robotic Orthopedic surgeries. We all learned new things and met new people from
all over the state who work in the surgical field. The Scrub Bowl team included
Delia Hanley, Laura Nashburn, Crystal Thousand (who are all graduating this
year) and a first-year student, Mario DiRoma. The competition was fun!
