Interim Chief of Public Safety
I am pleased to announce that Chris Piro has accepted MCC’s offer to
serve as the College’s Interim Chief of Public Safety beginning Monday,
March 7. He will serve for up to a year as the position is filled on a
permanent basis.
Chris retired from MCC in August of 2020 as Coordinator, Law Enforcement
after 16 years serving the college in various public safety roles. Having
retired as a Lieutenant in the Rochester Police Department (RPD), he began his
MCC career in 2004 filling a part-time position as the college’s liaison
to the RPD and other law enforcement departments. He simultaneously
served as a part-time Coordinator at the Damon City Campus handling security
matters and investigations. Recognizing Chris’s solid contributions and
clear commitment to MCC’s student-focused mission, he was appointed to
the position of Coordinator II, Law Enforcement in November 2004. In
2012, he was promoted to Coordinator I.
During his time at MCC, he served as Interim Assistant Director and worked
alongside several “Chiefs.” He is a strong advocate for
public safety and was instrumental in the management of Clery Act compliance,
implementation of SUNY’s 2014 sexual assault prevention and response
policies, and provided feedback and recommendations for establishing security
protocols for the new Downtown Campus. Chris was here at the start of the
COVID-19 pandemic and participated in guiding the Chief and college community
through many early pandemic challenges dealing with testing, masking
requirements, social distancing, etc.
I am pleased to welcome Chris back to the MCC community in this capacity. I
am confident that under his leadership the Public Safety department will
continue to successfully serve our students and the safety and security needs
of the entire college community. Please join me in welcoming Chris back
to MCC.
