Children's Dental Health Month
Fifty children (ages 2-14) received high quality dental care free of charge
at Monroe Community College's annual Give Kids A Smile event on February 2,
2019. Held at the college's Brighton Campus, the event provides valuable care
to children and helps MCC student-hygienists gain the clinical experience
needed to earn MCC's dental hygiene associate of applied science degree. In
support of Give Kids A Smile, MCC student-hygienists provided cleaning,
fluoride treatment, and x-rays services under the supervision of MCC faculty.
Seven local dentists, members of the 7th District Dental Association,
volunteered their time and provided examinations. MCC's dental hygiene program
and Give Kids A Smile events continue to grow through the partnership and
support of the 7th District Dental Society. MCC's Dental Hygiene graduates
approximately 30 dental hygienists each year, culminating in a spring pinning
ceremony. Each year, approximately 6,000 patients receive care at the clinic
for little or no cost.
