MCC Faculty Member, Students Discuss Their Efforts to Help in Puerto Rico
In late April, Governor Cuomo announced the launch of the NY Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery
and Rebuilding Initiative which is deploying approximately 500 SUNY and
CUNY students this summer to help in the rebuild of the hurricane-ravaged
island. MCC, the only community college considered a hub in this initiative,
sent a group of 10 college students (6 from MCC and 4 from other SUNY colleges)
to participate in this project. Led by MCC Professor Marisol Galarza-Ruiz, the
group partnered with All
Hands & Hearts from Aug. 12 - 25 to accomplish one significant goal: to
build roofs.
On Monday, August 27, MCC Faculty Member Marisol Galarza-Ruiz and MCC
Students Mahjari Hutchinson and Kyle Navratil discussed their recent trip with
WROC-8 reporter Emily Noonan.
