Join Us Today for a Moment of Silence: Remembering the Victims of Buffalo
Please join us Today, Thursday May 19th, at Noon in the R. Thomas
Flynn Campus Center Atrium to honor and remember the
victims lost duirng the tragic mass shooting in Buffalo, NY, and
to take a moment of silence to mourn for those impacted by this horrible
tragedy.
“This past Saturday, an 18-year-old shooter, motivated by hate and
racism, traveled to Buffalo, New York where he murdered 10 innocent individuals
in an act of cowardice, ignorance, and inequity. Eleven of the 13 shooting
victims were Black. The ripple effect of outrage, sorrow, and fear resulting
from this tragedy weighs heavily on our hearts as we mourn the victims and pray
for their families and community.
Monroe Community College joins SUNY Interim Chancellor Dr. Deborah F.
Stanley, state and community leaders, faith groups and neighbors across New
York in standing tall against white supremacy, racism, and the violent
extremism which often follows. MCC does not and will not tolerate
actions motivated by hate—period.”
As Dr. DeAnna Burt-Nanna has mentioned above in her statement to the
college, MCC does not and will not tolerate prejudice, hate, or racism. As we
all take the time to mourn and grapple with the events that took place last
weekend in one of our sister communities, please know you are not alone. The
campus community is here to support each other and hold each other up in this
time of great sorrow.
