SWANS College Hour
Straw Mat Writers and Method Machine are co-hosting a special MCC College
Hour focusing on the upcoming world premiere of Swans at Geva Theatre
Center's Fielding Stage. Local actors Kevin Sweeney and Marcy Savastano will
perform a climactic scene from the play, followed by a conversation with the
play's author, director, actors, designers, and producers, offering students
the opportunity to witness the process of creating original dramatic art and to
engage in questions surrounding the artistic representation of domestic and
sexual abuse.
This event will be Friday, May 4, from 12 to 12:50 PM, in Building 8-200.
All are welcome.
Here's the current blurb for the actual play:
Swans is a tender exploration of a local family torn apart by
abuse. In this stirring world premiere written by Rochester playwright Maria
Brandt, Paul's mother returns after a ten-year absence, forcing Paul to
confront the circumstances of her leaving as well as his own complicity in
shaping a world where women are not always safe. Directed by Method Machine's
David Henderson and featuring some of Rochester's top talent, Swans
will be presented in The Fielding Stage at Geva for only four performances.
Swans is an important new experience that will provide deeper and
personal insights into the long-term impact of abuse.
Opening Night Talkback with RESOLVE of Greater Rochester, empowering people
and communities to break the cycle of domestic violence.
