Money, Money, Money!
Did you know that having more money doesn't necessarily mean you can get all
bills paid on time? Being financially wise is about understanding how to manage
the funds you have. The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Rochester is
presenting 4 workshops to help you learn more about managing your money.
Workshops are offered on both campuses as outlined on the attached calendar.
Workshop topics include:
Dealing with Debt Collectors
When it comes to dealing with debt collectors, many consumers feel lost not
knowing where to begin. This class is the perfect way to gain the knowledge and
confidence needed to tackle old collection debts with skill and ease. The class
covers what collectors can and cannot do, how debt collectors get paid, options
for responding to a debt collector, record keeping, enlisting the help of an
attorney, and options when a debt collector violates the law.
Protecting your personal information
Identity theft is one of the most pervasive crimes in our nation. It impacts
individuals from all walks of life and is typically carried out by a person
that is known to the victim. Criminals are continually developing new ways of
farming sensitive personal information to carry out their crimes. In this
ever-changing landscape of electronic transactions and information sharing
technology, it's vital that we continually learn what measures we need to take
to remain safe. This class lays the groundwork for what we need to do to combat
identity thieves.
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Overspending has become a celebrated activity in our culture. Everyone likes
to spend money on the latest and greatest... tablets, smartphones, smart TV's,
etc. Unfortunately, overspending can severely hinder our financial wellness and
prevent us from achieving our full potential in building wealth and security.
In this session you will learn how to gain control over your spending, have a
correct "money mentality", be a savvy shopper, and overcome spending
problems.
Winning scores!
Credit scoring is a subject that has grown exponentially over the past
several years. Traditionally, consumers have only been made aware of FICO
scores - used originally by mortgage lenders. Today, there are over 100
different types of credit scores in the market with their own take on the
credit scoring model. Learn about current trends, the factors that affect
scores, the do's and don'ts of credit scores, and how to obtain and understand
a credit score.
March 14th sessions will be held at the Brighton campus from 2:00-4:00 in
room 9-132. March 28th workshops will be at the Downtown campus in room 412B.
Hope to see you there!
