Need Summer Credits? SUNY COIL Global Commons Summer Program Registration is Open!
The SUNY COIL Global Commons is back for 2021! This unique program includes
two, 3-credit online courses and collaborative storytelling-based projects
between students and international community-based, Non-Governmental
Organizations. Many of these organizations are small, with few resources,
working hard to improve circumstances in their local communities. Students will
help these organizations to raise awareness of their work through the
storytelling projects.
The Intercultural Storytelling course focuses on how stories shape the way
people understand complicated issues. The second course, International
Perspectives on a selected UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), provides an
overview of the issues related to each of the SDGs and an in-depth examination
of one aspect.
Students apply what they learn in their courses to help an international
organization craft the story of its work. Throughout, students also learn about
another culture, how it views the problems framed by the SDG, and how people
around the world are working to address these challenges.
The feedback we have received from many students and faculty from the first
running of this program last summer is that the experience was transformative
for them. The same will be true this summer as well, please share this
opportunity widely.
Deadline to sign up is this coming Monday, May 10th! See our website for full
