MCC's Haley Collado Among 20 SUNY Students Selected to Serve as EOP Ambassador
SUNY's Office of Opportunity Programs recently announced that Haley
Collado, an MCC criminal justice major, is one of 20 SUNY students selected to
serve as an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Ambassador for the 2023-24
academic year.
In their role as EOP Ambassadors, they will mentor fellow students, create
an EOP student support network across the SUNY system, participate in advocacy
efforts, serve as the voice of SUNY EOP students in working with program
leadership to strengthen the program, represent SUNY EOP students at major
events as assigned, and help recruit students into the EOP program.
EOP Student Ambassadors receive professional development and leadership
opportunities as well as awards of $5,000/year ($2,500 per semester) in their
financial aid packages. Later this week, they will attend orientation in
Albany, dedicated to training, developing relationships, and setting the pace
for the academic year.
The program's selection process is competitive. Students are nominated by
their college's EOP director, and candidates undergo an interview with the
Office of Opportunity Programs. Students who are selected as
ambassadors possess excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding
public speaking skills, and great leadership qualities. They are also in good
academic standing and are enrolled full time in college.
Currently working part time as a library assistant at MCC, Haley Collado is
a member of Pride Alliance and an MCC chapter member of the Phi Theta
Kappa honor society.
