Sad News About Our Beloved Therapy Dog, Milli
Milli Tippett, MCC’s beloved therapy dog, passed away two weeks ago at
the age of 12 short years. You remember, I’m sure, her beautiful, silky,
black coat, the soulfulness in her eyes, and the affection and comfort she gave
so willingly; she loved people, and she loved “working” with her
MCC family.
Obviously, the affection was returned. Milli had a birthday party in the
Counseling Center and always had students waiting for her when she made her
weekly visits. Whether you met her in one of her mom’s (Ann
Tippett, Professor, English/Philosophy) classes, visited her in the library,
saw her during frequent visits to departments all over campus, at events for
students, or just walking down the hall, she brought joy and smiles to all of
us.
Milli was a very busy girl outside of her time at MCC, as well, touching the
lives of so many through her work at the Pluta Cancer Center, where she
comforted families. She also earned additional certification to work for
Friends of Strong, where she visited patients in the psychiatric ward at Strong
Memorial Hospital, and comforted patients in hospice care.
We are all better people for knowing and loving Milli, and our hearts go out
to Ann (Tippett), her mom, companion, and handler, and her dad, Mike (Doolin).
We thank them for bringing Milli into our lives at MCC.
“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small
gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of
our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What
would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass?
What would this world be like without dogs?”
