The Sixth Act Presents Daystar/Rosalie Jones Thursday, September 10
The Sixth Act is thrilled to host Daystar/Rosalie Jones on Thursday,
September 10, from 11 AM to 12:15 PM. A flyer with more information,
including the zoom link for participants, is attached.
Esteemed choreographer/dancer Daystar/Rosalie Jones will introduce the
storytelling potentials of the Anishinaabe Medicine Wheel, also called the
Medicine Circle, or the Circle of Life. The Wheel embodies a depth of teachings
from the Anishinaabe (or Ojibwe) people of North America. In its basic
elements, this symbol is used as a teaching tool through which to embody the
cycles of life, the elements of nature, and our responsibilities to self and
the world around us.
All MCC faculty, staff, and students are welcome to join us for this special
event. Please note, though, that Rosalie has asked for participants to
watch a short video and read a short essay to prepare for this event. This will
help introduce participants to some of the basic indigenous discourse that
informs her work and foster a more meaningful experience for all
involved.
For more information, including these preparation materials, please
contact Maria Brandt at mbrandt@monroecc.edu.
We're excited to kick off this semester with such a powerful
interdisciplinary opportunity for all of our students, and we hope you can join
us!
