RACCE Awards Ceremony Honors MCC Students April 11, 2018
On April 11, 2018 Rochester Area Colleges Continuing Education Associated
honored thirty extraordinary non-traditional students, three of which were from
Monroe Community College (MCC), at their 35th Annual Outstanding Adult Student
Banquet. Recipients are adult students who have excelled academically while
successfully combining their college education with other commitments to
family, job, career, and service to the community. Congratulations to Dan
Buccieri, Lydia Hernandez, and Jessica Rich.
Dan Buccieri is a culinary arts students who is also a student aide here at
MCC, a culinary assistant at NY Wine & Culinary Arts Center in Canandaigua,
and now a secondary education culinary instructor at Rush Henrietta High
School. He also volunteers at Christ Church, a soup kitchen, and Rochester Zen
Center for Battered Women.
Lydia Hernandez is finishing up her Liberal Art Degree this Spring. She
served in Iraq as a member of the Air National Guard and continues to serve her
country in the armed forces today. She hopes to continue her education by
pursuing the Nursing Program here at MCC.
Jessica Rich will also be graduating this May with an associate degree and
Honors Certificate. She is member of Phi Theta Kappa, and is Western NY
Regional Vice President of the Chapter. She is also President of Student
Government, interning at the Rochester Police Department, holds a part time
job, and most importantly, a single mother of a 7 year old son. Her most recent
accolade: a SUNY Chancellor Award.
In addition to MCC, the following schools also had student awardees: RIT,
Keuka, St. John Fisher College, Nazareth College, The College at Brockport,
Genesee Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Alfred State
College, and the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center.
