Preparing Public Safety Staff for Emergencies on Campus
Sarah DeLaus, a full-time security guard with the Department of Public
Safety, recently completed training with the Center for Domestic Preparedness
(CPD) in Anniston, Alabama. The CDP is operated by the United States
Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA). It is the CDP’s mission to develop and deliver advanced
training for emergency response providers, emergency managers, and other
government officials from state, local, and tribal governments. CDP
courses focus on incident management, mass casualty response, and emergency
response to a catastrophic natural disaster or terrorist event. All
training at the CDP Campus is federally funded, with no cost to attending
government agencies. Responders participating in CDP training gain
critical skills and confidence to respond effectively to local incidents or
potential cataclysmic events. Combined with the Masters in Emergency
Management from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice she has almost
completed, Sarah is preparing to assist Public Safety’s Emergency
Manager, Chuck DiSalvo, to respond to any emergency incident, whether here at
the College or within the local community.
Congratulations Sarah!
