Student Code of Conduct: Compliance Updates Completed
The Student Code of Conduct has undergone a compliance review and the
following changes have been made:
1. All binary language was removed to ensure that all students at Monroe
Community College could relate to the policies and procedures listed
therein;
2. Per the SUNY Ban the Box legislation that went into effect in January
2018, Monroe Community College is required to collect information about
misdemeanor and felony arrests of students if they occur while a student is
enrolled at the institution. Language to satisfy the SUNY requirements has been
added.
3. For compliance and best practice, the appeals process for students who
have been held responsible for a violation of policy has been updated to
include use of a gatekeeper (to ensure the grounds for appeal are acceptable)
and a panel (more than one individual who will review a student's
submission).
4. For compliance and to match our practice, additional language has been
added regarding the College's jurisdiction over online use, as it relates to
threats, bullying or other types of violations, while also considering a
student's rights under the First Amendment.
5. Updated and more clear language surrounding the College's use of interim
sanctions, as recommended for compliance.
6. Creation of a new policy violation "Sexual Misconduct - Public Exposure"
that covers the following: voyeurism and public sex acts.
