April is Autism Awareness Month
April is here, which means it's time for rain (and/or snow) showers,
cheerful flowers (any day now), and something even more exciting. If you've
seen MCC buildings after dark lately, you may have noticed a mysterious aura of
blue light. The lights shining on MCC this month are a beautiful blue in
recognition of Autism Awareness Month.
In 2007, the United Nations resolved that April 2nd would henceforth be
recognized as World Autism
Awareness Day. This year, the date coincided with the MCC Spring Recess.
Fortunately the entire month of April is widely celebrated as Autism Awareness
Month. Throughout April, organizations across the nation hold a variety of
events and educational activities to help the public learn more about Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD). So never fear, there is still plenty of time to
participate in this year's celebration. Wear some blue, attend a fun event or two,
and increase your awareness about ASD.

Autism Awareness Events at MCC:

Date: Wednesday, April 18, 2018, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Event: Autism Awareness/Kindness Campaign table event
Location: MCC Brighton Campus, Upper Terrace.
Description: MCC's Services for Students with Disabilities
(SSD) and Counseling offices will be hosting an event to increase awareness
about ASD, and encourage random acts of kindness. Come raise your awareness and
spread some kindness around our campus.

Event: MCC Autism Awareness Group Photo
Location: MCC Brighton Campus, North Atrium (outside the
Mercer Gallery)
Description: SSD/Counseling is looking for some eager
volunteers to wear blue and participate in an aerial group
photo in celebration of Autism Awareness Month.

Description: Provides an opportunity for employers and job
seekers with Autism, Asperger's to network and connect also with other job
seekers.

Description: Second annual walk/run 5K in celebration of

school spirit and sign
up for "Team MCC".

Description: An annual fundraising event held by Autism Up, which is an organization that
provides support to the individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their
families. The donations and event proceeds generated through this event provide
help to the Rochester community.
