Criminal Justice Faculty Address BLM and Mental Health in Policing within Curriculum
We are proud to announce that, under the leadership of Chair Adrian Smalls
and the participation of the CRJ faculty, we have added a new CLO to our
Criminal Justice A.S. program to directly address issues related to the Black
Lives Matter movement. The CLO states: “Evaluate how
community perception of the police and justice system shapes relations between
cultural groups within the community through analysis of historical police and
citizen involvement.”
Chair Smalls is also seeking ways to embed responding to mental health
crises into our CRJ programs. In addition, the Human Services faculty has
submitted a micro-credential in Trauma-Informed Practices to the curriculum
process, and it can be adapted to numerous programs to address these issues in
a variety of settings, including policing.
Please join me in congratulating the CRJ and HUM faculty in this extremely
important work to better train our law enforcement students to work safely with
our entire community.
