Phishing Attack

If you received the email below do not click on the links. This email is a phishing attack. Phishing attacks use email or malicious websites to solicit personal information by posing as a trustworthy organization. Permanently delete this email from your Outlook account.

MCC will never ask you to click a link to “verify your account” or reset your password. Additionally, MCC will never ask for any of your account credentials via email. Other ways you can determine the email below is not from MCC and is a phishing attempt are:

  • An email from the college would include contact information, like a phone number or an email address ending with @monroecc.edu.
  • Monroe and College are spelled incorrectly on the first line.
  • Poor grammar throughout the email.
  • If you hover over the links the link address will popup. These links do not go to a monroecc.edu address.
  • The email creates a sense of urgency by telling you, for example, to “renew your account now or it will be terminated.”

If you clicked on the link and submitted your credentials, immediately change your password at the MCC account management webpage https://account.monroecc.edu. If you want assistance changing your password, please call the student help desk at 292-8324, option 1 or email technologyhelp@student.monroecc.edu.  Additionally we strongly recommend that you do a virus scan on the computer you were using when you clicked on the link.

Dear Monroecc E-mail User

This message is from Monreo Community Collage: Monroecc Email Help Desk, We are currently upgrading our [student.monroecc.edu] database and e-mail account center i.e Office365 homepage view, enhance security installations of new -2018 anti-spam and anti-virus software, large mailbox space. For your account security, we strongly recommend that you Renew your account now, else your account will be scheduled for termination. After login/verification, extra security features will be activated in your email settings and your account will be safe for use again. Kindly verify your e-mail within 24 hours or your e-mail will be temporarily suspended. CLICK HEREto verify your e-mail.
