Green Tip: America Recycles Day - November 15
According to the Keep America Beautiful site, its America Recycles Day (ARD)
is the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating
recycling in the United States. The focus is to encourage individuals to
be mindful of what they consume, how to properly recycle and to pledge to
recycle right.
Purchasing items packaged in aluminum or glass and then recycling the
containers helps save resources, energy and supports a circular economy.
Here are a few interesting facts from ARD Aluminum and Glass Recycling Facts brochure.
- Aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable with nearly 75% of all
aluminum ever produced still in use today.
- The cost to recycle a can is less than the cost to manufacture a
new can.
- Glass bottles (used for food and beverages) are 100% recyclable and
can be recycled indefinitely.
- Over one ton of natural resources are saved for every ton of glass
recycled.
You can participate in ARD by taking the #BeRecycled pledge to:
Learn – I will find out what materials are collected for recycling in
my community
Act – Within the next month, I will reduce the amount of waste I
produce, I will recycle more, and I will buy products made with recycled
content.
Share – In the next month, I will encourage one family member or one
friend to take the #BeRecycled pledge.
MCC’s Sustainability Steering Committee encourages you to join
us on Facebook and Instagram--take the pledge! #BeRecycled
