Dr. Margaret Semmer appointed as MCC's first Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs
Dear MCC Faculty, Staff and Students,
We are pleased to announce that candidate Dr. Margaret Semmer has accepted
the appointment of Monroe Community College’s Provost and Vice President,
Academic and Student Affairs effective on February 1, 2023.
Dr. Semmer recently served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Ivy
Tech Community College of Indiana, Lake County Campus.
Dr. Semmer has extensive experience as a higher education administrator,
with a commitment to collaboration, creativity and partnership. She brings to
MCC prior leadership experience in other multi-location, comprehensive
community college environments including another League for Innovation in
the Community College member institution. Dr. Semmer’s expert and
committed experience to championing student success, innovation, and
organizational change has been instrumental in advancing institutional
priorities. Her leadership experience in union and non-union environments,
including those with faculty tenure, make her an ideal candidate to
preserve MCC’s longstanding history of teaching, scholarship and service
equally balanced with elevation of the expert work of MCC’s student
affairs professionals. She is a vigorous advocate of diversity equity and
inclusion, and shared governance.
Dr. Semmer holds a Doctor of Education, Adult, Continuing and Higher
Education Administration from Northern Illinois University; a Master of Arts
(Department of Communication, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences) from the
University of Illinois at Chicago; and, a Bachelor of Science (Department of
Communication, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences) from Northern Illinois
University. The President is working with Dr. Semmer to prioritize Vision2027
strategic plan directions and the full implementation of organizational
structuring in Academic and Student Affairs by Fall 2023, inclusive of
engagement opportunities with direct and indirect reports, students, other
college employees, and members of the community throughout Dr. Semmer’s
first 90 days.
We hope you will join us in welcoming this dynamic higher education leader
to the Monroe Community College as she fully transitions to Rochester over the
coming weeks to commence her duties by February 1.
Our appreciation goes out to search co-chairs Dr. Robin Cole Jr.
and Becky Babcock and the Provost/Vice-President ASA Search Committee, as well
as everyone involved in this search. The collegewide feedback collected during
finalist interviews was invaluable in President Burt-Nanna’s
comprehensive review and vetting of each finalist.
