Kitchen Fire in Residence Hall

On Sunday, March 12th, 2023 at approximately 9:30pm there was a grease fire in Canal Hall.  The fire alarm sounded and students exited the building. The fire was extinguished by a Campus Safety Officer on scene.  Once the Henrietta Fire Department determined the building was safe, Canal Hall Students returned to their suites.

Students residing in the damaged suite were moved to an adjacent suite, because of smoke and damage to the kitchen.  While the fire caused smoke damage, the MCC Community is thankful for the fire alarm system and the swift action of MCC Campus Safety.  There were no student injuries from the fire.  The suite will remain closed until all cleaning and repairs are made. In addition, MCC is offering support to the impacted students.

Counseling services are available to all currently enrolled students.  Counseling sessions are conducted either by video or in-person at the Brighton (3-103) and Downtown (3-310) campus locations.  To schedule an appointment with a mental health counselor, please email counselingservices@monroecc.edu or phone (585) 292-2140 the Counseling Center for additional assistance.  We also encourage students to visit the Counseling Center website for additional information
