You are visiting the home of Monroe Community College's First Year Experience (FYE) and New Student Orientation programs. Here you will find more information about New Student Orientation and helpful resources for those involved in the FYE program and those who want to learn more about the program. At the heart of the FYE and New Student Orientation programs is student success. Through activities, workshops, courses, and community service, students will be exposed to the numerous opportunities to help them be successful both inside and outside of the classroom.

What is FYE?

FYE is a structured program that new students can decide to participate in to enhance the college experience during their first year. First Year Experience starts with your participation in New Student Orientation. If you were unable to attend the Orientation program, it is not too late to participate in the FYE. Just see an FYE Advisor. Some of the courses you are enrolled in are actually part of the FYE program. These courses include courses such as COS, CDL, and LDS. In addition to enrolling in the credit-bearing courses, you will also have the opportunity to participate in educational workshops to further enhance your academic, leadership and interpersonal skills. The educational workshops include workshops sponsored by the Career and Transfer Center, Writing Center, and the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development. Completing the program will provide you with a Leadership Certificate and a Co-Curricular Transcript.

What type of courses are COS, CDL and LDS?

These courses are designed to help students learn about college expectations, further develop academic skills, and enhance interpersonal and leadership skills. For more detailed explanation, view the course descriptions.

Orientation

Orientation is a program designed to help you acclimate to your new campus. There is a Day Program and an Evening Program to help accommodate your schedule. The Orientation program includes an introduction to academic expectations from an MCC faculty member, a guided campus tour by the Peer Mentors, and small group activities for you to meet other new students and start making new friends.
