Patrol Rifle Operator Course

Program Announcement

The Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility, under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, will be holding an MPTC approved Patrol Rifle Operator Course at the Rush Range, 492 Stonybrook Road, Rush, NY 14543. This course is for law enforcement officers whose duties require the use of an AR-style patrol rifle. Participants must be able to withstand difficult shooting and movement associated with the environment a patrol officer may respond to. This is not a familiarization course.

Successful completion of this course will result in two (2) college credits from Monroe Community College.

Session Dates

  • June 24 thru 27, 2024, 8am to 4pm

Prerequisites

NYS certified police officer in active duty

Required Attire and/or Equipment

Attire:

  • Department uniform of the day, or BDU and Polo shirt
  • Inclement weather gear
  • Ball cap

Equipment:

  • AR-style rifle with tactical sling and light
  • 3 rifle magazines
  • 250 rounds rifle service ammunition
  • 500 rounds rifle practice ammunition
  • Duty pistol with duty holster
  • 3 pistol magazines
  • 50 rounds practice pistol ammunition
  • Wrap-around style protective glasses or goggles (No exceptions)
  • Ear protection
  • Soft body armor patrol vest

Suggested gear:

  • Camel back or equivalent
  • Sight adjustment tool
  • Energy bar or snacks
  • Rain pants and jacket
  • Duty belt
  • AR magazine holster
  • Knee pads

  • AR Rifle nomenclature
  • Zero procedures
  • Distance shooting
  • Close-quarters shooting
  • Techniques and tactics associated with the AR-style rifle
  • Shooting on the move
  • Qualification, to include low-light

Graduation Requirements

  • 90% attendance (policy set by Monroe Community College)
  • Minimum 70% score on written exam
  • Demonstrate successful completion of practical exercises

Course Tuition and Fees

  • Tuition: $408.00 (per person)
  • Estimated Student Fees: $111.75 (Student fees may vary each semester)
  • It is Not necessary to send a check or voucher prior to class. Students will be billed at the completion of the course.
  • Note: Monroe Community College reserves the right to revise tuition and fees as necessary

Reservations

Please complete the online Law Enforcement Program Course Reservation Form no later than June 3, 2024. Submitting a reservation form does not guarantee admittance to a course. Confirmation notices will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the class. Please remember to check your junk/spam folder.

To avoid double tuition billing, a Certificate of Residence is required from students who reside outside of Monroe County.
