Announcing Scholars' Day 2024 - Save the Date

Scholars' Day at MCC has a long tradition of showcasing our student and faculty academic work. This event celebrates academic excellence while promoting and encouraging scholarship throughout the College. It features a conference of undergraduate student and faculty presentations, posters, performances, and a keynote address. Student presentations are judged by panels of faculty, staff, and administrators, and scholarships are awarded for first, second, and third place in a variety of subjects. Scholars' Day 2024 will be held on Tuesday, April 30 on the Brighton Campus.

keynote presentation by David Wallace-Wells will follow on Wednesday, May 1 at 7pm in the MCC Theatre.  Wallace-Wells states that the future is being transformed by climate change faster and more dramatically than we realized. Politics, technology, business, even our sense of human rights, will all be changed by this massive force. But how and to what degree?  In this talk, Wallace-Wells will draw on the findings in his book, The Uninhabitable Earth, and explore the near-future we face in the wake of the climate crisis. Even though there will be difficult times ahead, there is still time to mitigate the effects of years of abusing our planet and, most importantly—there is still hope for a livable future for all.

Scholars' Day application forms are available now. The application deadline is March 5, 2024. Students, faculty, and staff are all invited to submit an application to deliver an oral or poster presentation based on scholarship in or outside the classroom, or a performance with scholarly commentary.  Students, maybe you're working on an assignment or class project now or are planning one for the spring that would be a perfect Scholars' Day topic; you will need a faculty sponsor who will work with you to provide guidance, so if you are thinking of applying, talk to your professors about sponsorship or let us know if you need help finding a sponsor.  See our FAQ for details.

We hope to see everyone at Scholars' Day in the spring!
