National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week- Thank You to our MCC Public Safety Dispatchers!

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week of recognition was started in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office in California, and honors telecommunicators for their commitment, service, and sacrifice. Please join me in thanking our MCC Public Safety Dispatchers for their hard work in keeping our community safe.

A Monroe Community College Public Safety dispatcher may be the first person you interact with when contacting Public Safety.  The MCC Emergency Communications Office, housed within the Department of Public Safety, is open 365 days a year and is staffed 24 hours a day.

MCC dispatchers come from various backgrounds, but most have some form of first responder experience and have trained, volunteered or worked with local emergency service departments such as the county’s ECD-911 Center or local Fire/ EMS agencies.

Working dual positions as both telecommunicator and dispatcher, call taking consists of emergency and non-emergency requests for service.  No matter the reason, all calls are accepted at one answering point.  All of the dispatchers are trained in and are responsible for monitoring devices such as the college’s fire alarm systems, door and panic alarms, RAVE Guardian and live CCTV.

We appreciate our dispatchers for their years of service to MCC!

  • Jason Rampello, 17 years service
