Announcing Scholars' Day 2025 - Save the Date
Scholars' Day at MCC has a long tradition of showcasing our student and faculty academic work. This event celebrates academic excellence while promoting and encouraging scholarship throughout the College. It features a conference of student and faculty presentations, posters, performances, and a keynote address. Student presentations are judged by faculty, staff, and administrators, and scholarships are awarded in a variety of categories. Scholars' Day 2025 will be held on Tuesday, April 29 on the Brighton Campus.
A keynote presentation by writer, poet, and scholar Clint Smith will follow on Wednesday, April 30 at 7pm in the MCC Theatre. Smith is the author of the New York Times bestseller How the Word Is Passed and Above Ground, one of TIME magazine’s 100 Must-Read Books. Clint is revolutionizing how we understand the history of our country, the physical places where we live, and the stories we tell about the world around us. Through his vital writing and talks, he argues that understanding our history not only enables us to understand our world, but also empowers us to fight for racial justice; he challenges us to reckon with our past “honestly, proactively, and precisely.” According to Smith, when we recognize the ecosystem of stories that influence our understanding of history, we can better make sense of the world we live in today—and choose to build a better world for those who come after us.
The Scholars' Day application form will become available later this semester. The application deadline is March 3, 2025. Students, faculty, and staff are all invited to submit an application to deliver an oral or poster presentation based on scholarship in or outside the classroom, or a performance with scholarly commentary.
Students: Are you working on an assignment or class project now or are planning one for the spring that would be perfect for Scholars' Day? If so, you will need a faculty sponsor who will work with you to provide guidance, so talk to your professors now about sponsorship or let us know if you need help finding a sponsor. See our FAQ for details.
We hope to see everyone at Scholars' Day in the spring!
