Launch Your Coaching Career with MCC’s Public School Professional Coach Certification Microcredential

Want to help kids access the life-changing benefits of youth sports? Upon successful completion of the Public School Professional Coach Certification Microcredential, you will be eligible to coach in NYS public high schools. As a coach, you will not only help young students get more physical activity, but you will also help them stay on the path of lifelong wellness. And that’s not all. According to research done by the Aspen Institute, students who play sports achieve up to 40% higher test scores and are 15% more likely to attend college.

After completing each microcredential course, you must submit the course completion certificate to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to receive professional certification. Additional certifications in first aid and CPR/AED are required annually. By completing the microcredential and submitting the required documentation to the NYSED, you will be qualified to coach modified, junior varsity and varsity sports as an assistant or head coach in NYS public schools.

Monroe Community College is an approved provider of the New York State Education Department Professional Coach Certification coursework and corresponding workshops (DASA, SAVE, Mandated Reporter: Identification of Child Abuse, and Concussion Management). This 10-credit microcredential, combined with the required workshops, can be submitted to NYSED for qualification to coach JV and Varsity Sports as an Assistant or Head Coach.

All but PPE 209, ladder into MCC’s Physical Education and Exercise Science A.S. degree and all courses can be applied to the Liberal Arts & Sciences A.S. degree.

Requirements:
PPE 175 – Philosophy and Principles of Physical Education and Athletics (3 credits)
PPE 170 – Introduction to Sport Medicine (3 credits)
PPE 209 – Theories and Techniques of Coaching (3 credits)
PPE 211 – Selected Certifications in Youth Sport (1 credit)
